Part 4: Private lessons
The greatest enjoyment of fencing comes when you gain strong control over the basic technical & tactical skills that form the foundation of all remaining skills in the sport. Whether you compete informally in the club or formally in competition, the skills that provide the greatest rewards for your efforts are the same. Private lessons are the best way to refine these skills. They involve a focused period of time (15 - 30 minutes) during which the coach sets up a small number of drills for the fencer to perform against the coach's target. This enables the coach to provide the fencer with numerous repetitions and very specific feedback on technical and tactical improvements.
Lesson Policy:
a. Private lessons are offered in groups of 5, 10, 15 or 20 lessons and must be scheduled either weekly or bi-weekly.
b. Scheduled lessons which are missed without notifying the coach in advance may not be rescheduled.
c. Fencers are expected to complete a personal warm-up lasting at least five minutes prior to the scheduled start of each lesson.
Note: The first lesson will normally involve goal setting and technical assessment.
Lesson Times: By mutual agreement with the coach. For sabre lessons, contact Jim Stevens. For foil or epee lessons, contact Barbara Daniel.
Lesson Fees:
| Lesson length | 5 lessons | 10 lessons | 15 lessons | 20 lessons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15 minutes | $45 | $85 | $120 | $150 |
| 30 minutes | $90 | $170 | $240 | $300 |
